Boca Raton, FL – The 4-time defending ABA Champions failed to disappoint in another thrilling victory.  The Jacksonville Giants (3-0) defeated the number one ranked South Florida Gold 120-105, Saturday night.  The win is Jacksonville’s 25th straight, dating back to December of 2016.  The Giants will take on the St. Petersburg Tide tonight to close out their weekend road trip.

“The score isn’t a true indication of the game,” said Giants coach Jerry Williams. “It was a team effort and we came together at the right time to seal the deal.”

The Giants were led by string play from ABA All Star Point Guard Maurice Mickens.  Mickens scored a game high 29 points.  Dylon Cormier (22 points),  Rashad Faust (14 points), and  Calvin Warner (13 points), rounded out the scoring leaders for the Giants.

“These are the type of games we need to win to become a better team,” said Mickens.

The game was Jacksonville’s toughest test yet for the 2017-18 season.  South Florida was undefeated and the Giants had two lopsided wins last week.  Both teams played relentless with the Giants taking a close 56-50 halftime lead over the Gold.

“I’m very proud of the team’s effort,” said Faust.

The game began to get more exciting going into the fourth and final quarter with Jacksonville taking a slim 81-79 lead.  Mickens continued his superb play, landing crucial baskets and keeping Jacksonville in the lead.  Jacksonville outscored the Gold 39-26 in the fourth quarter to close out the win

“We gutted out a tough win over a very talented team,” said Giants assistant coach Marcus Thomas.

The Giants will remain on the road next week before returning to Jacksonville for their home opener on Friday, December 15 at the Veterans Memorial Arena at 7:00 p.m.  Jacksonville will take on the competitive Mobile Bay Tornadoes in a final four rematch from last season.  For ticket information please check the Giants’ website at www.jacksonvillegiants.com
