The reigning ABA Champion Jacksonville Giants are streaking ladies and gentlemen! The 7-time champs have now rattled off 7 consecutive wins after their weekend sweep of the Tampa Bay Fury and Clermont Crocs in West Florida.
Coach Tucker continues his early career magic as Jacksonville has progressed to a 7-1 overall record and should be back near the top of the Power Rankings in due time. Returning point guard and former league MVP Maurice Mickens was the star of the weekend, as he poured in 80 points in just 2 games to help seal a pair of high scoring affairs for our Giants. The squad had 5 players in double figures on Sunday to round out the scoring and help propel them to an efficient road victory.
Attention and game plans have not shifted much as we are taking on the Clermont Crocs once again this Saturday, as they will be chomping their way into Jacksonville with revenge on their mind. After a disappointing start to the new year, the Crocs have turned it around and have recorded wins in 4 of their last 6 contests. Crocs head coach Maxi Luna says, “there is no losing if you learn,” and he will put that mindset to the test as the Crocs are ready to show off what they learned in Sunday’s 134-119 defeat against the Giants.
With a team as hot as the Giants, it seems like every game is must watch TV. From Elijah “Superman” Smith soaring through the sky on both ends to Brandon Davis and crew drilling 3 after 3, it certainly is an event you don’t want to miss. Christ the King Catholic School will be the venue this Saturday, January 29th at 6pm, where the rematch will go down between in-state foes.
