The Jacksonville Giants improved to 24-1 on the season following a, 113-92,  win over the St. Augustine Glory. The Giants invaded the “Nations Oldest City” and put on an exciting show for the St. Augustine crowd. 

“I’m very proud of the team,” said Giants head coach Jerry Williams. “We played great basketball tonight.”

The St. John’s County crowd was treated to a very energetic Saturday night battle. The game went back and forth throughout the first half with both teams landing crucial shots. Both offensive team philosophies focused and relied on fast offensive tempos to score flurries of points. The Giants maintained a 57-44 halftime lead. Both teams were strong from the three point line as the Glory landed 9 total three pointers with the Giants landing 8. 

Bernard Nugent led the charge with 20 points, leading the Giants in scoring. Elijah “Superman” Smith (18 points) and Miguel Paul (16 points) rounded out the top scorers for Jacksonville. Hicks (21 points), Canteen (14 points) , and King(14 points) led the scoring for the Glory.

Star of the Game
2019 ABA Tournament MVP Bernard Nugent led Jacksonville with 20 points. Nugent landed two-three pointers, five steals, and seven assists. 

Turning Point
The Glory came within 10 points of Jacksonville (84-74), late in the third quarter. However, the trio of Maurice Mickens, Elijah Smith, and Miguel Paul helped create a 10-2 run early in the fourth quarter. The deficit was too much for St. Augustine to overcome.

On Defense
Elijah Smith and Nugent were all over the floor. Smith had four blocks and led the team in rebounds. Nugent led the team in steals.
