The Jacksonville Giants defeated the Chicago Steam, 132-111, to improve their record to 17-1. The Giants bounced back after a disappointing loss on Friday night to the third ranked Chicago Fury.
“ I could not be more proud of the way we came together with a tough win,” said head coach Jerry Williams. “ After our first loss of the season, last night, we really came together.”
Coach Williams had the Giants playing solid and explosive basketball throughout the night. Jacksonville got back to their fast and furious style of play. Clarence Tillman was the Giants leading scorer with 27 points. Tillman helped provide a spark on the offensive side of the ball with strong outside shooting. Tillman, a former overseas player in Spain, also contributed with some strong inside jump shots.
“This was a great bounce back win against a very good team,” said Williams.
Reigning ABA MVP Maurice Mickens (22 points) and shooting guard Miguel Paul (22 points) rounded out the leading scorers for Jacksonville. Paul, a former standout player at East Carolina University, landed multiple three pointers in the game.
“What a great way to get back on track with a tough win,” said Aaron Bowen.
Defensively, newcomer Brent Williams was named defensive player of the game. Williams led the Giants with five steals and six defensive rebounds. The physical defensive play kept Jacksonville in charge throughout the game. Calvin Warner and Bernard Nugent also contributed on defense.

Clarence Tillman led the Giants with a team high 27 points. The Orange Park Florida native was flawless in all phases of the game. Tillman, also a former overseas player in Spain, landed multiple three pointers on the night.
Turning Point:
The Giants double digit halftime lead was too much for Chicago to overcome. Offensively the Giants continued to keep the tempo going while on defense the pressure remained strong.
On Defense:
Brent Williams was named defensive player of the game. Williams led the Giants with five steals and six defensive rebounds.
Up Next:
The Giants will take on the Jackson Showboats on Tuesday at the Smoothie King Arena. The game will take place before the Bucks/Pelicans game.
