Giants Neutralize Nassau in Comeback Win

The six time ABA National Champions did not disappoint the locals in the 2019-2020 season opener. The reigning ABA champions displayed a strong game plan which resulted in a thrilling 129-90 win over the Nassau Pride. 

“The guys played a very good basketball game tonight despite being down at the half,” said head coach Jerry Williams.  

The game, located at Ridgeview High School, was another great way for the Giants to give back to their local fans in the Clay County area. The fans witnessed an inspiring team effort in the comeback win. 

Jacksonville trailed 52-47 at halftime, but overcame a slow start, outscoring Nassau 82-38 in the second half. The second half surge proved that the Giants are motivated and focused on winning a seventh ABA National Championship.

ABA All Star Bernard Nugent led the Giants with a team high 26 points on the night.  Nugent was complimented by longtime team veteran Jermaine Bell. Bell, the former ABA league MVP, netted 25 points. 

Seven Giants players scored in double digits. Gordon (17 points), Adub (14 points) and Mickens (13 points) all rounded out the top scorers for Jacksonville. Other contributions included Warner and Williams who both added 10 points each. 

“I was really impressed with the young player Aluk Adub,” said Williams. Adub was fourth on the team in scoring with 14 points. Adub was also strong in the rebounding department for Jacksonville. 

Giants VS Pride Game Box Highlights 

Star of the game: 
ABA All Star Bernard Nugent led the charge with 26 points on the night. Former ABA MVP Jermaine Bell added 25 points on the night. 

Turning Point: 
The Giants trailed 52-47 at halftime but came out with a powerful third quarter. Jacksonville went on a third quarter rally to regain the lead 86-77. The Giants continued their second half dominance, outscoring Nassau 82-38 in the second half. 

On Defense:
The Giants made key second half adjustments to shut down the Pride offensive production. Nugent used his speed and tenacity to force several steals against the Pride while Bell and Calvin Warner helped with pressure on the inside. 

Next Game: The Giants take on the 305 Ballers Saturday, December 21st, 2019. The game will take place at the University of North Florida at 5:00 p.m.
