Pensacola – The Jacksonville Giants made it rain from 3-point land on Saturday night defeating the Pensacola Lightning, 138-80, to remain unbeaten at 5-0 for the season. The victory should keep the Giants moving up the ABA Power Rankings, having moved to #4 after last week’s win over the South Florida Gold.

“Another step in the right direction,” said Giants’ head coach Jerry Williams. “I’m proud of the effort put forth by the guys.”

The Giants were led by the explosive play of guards Dylon Cormier and Larry Dumas.  Both players combined for 63 points with Cormier scoring 32 and Dumas adding 31.  Cormier and Dumas hit 13 of the Giants 14 three-point baskets in the game.  Tim Anderson (16 points) and Aaron Bowen (15 points) rounded out the leading scorers for Jacksonville.

“We executed as a team and locked up on defense,” said Cormier, who is a first-year player for the Giants.

Jacksonville jumped out to a commanding 66-41 halftime lead feeding off Jermaine “Slim” Bell’s six (6) rebounds and two (2) blocks, before lighting it up from the perimeter for 72 second half points keeping the game out of reach for the Lightning.

“I’m proud of the entire team,” said Giants’ assistant coach Marcus Thomas. “We all desire the same outcome as a collective group.”

On defense, the Giants played very physical against Pensacola.  Rashad Faust, Tim Amerson, and Aaron Bowen all contributed on the defensive side of the ball.  The Giants aggressive play and full-court press shut down the Lightning’s offense, while forcing numerous turnovers throughout the contest.

“We played a motivated and exciting basketball tonight,” said Bowen.
