Giants Strong Defensive Front Limit the Blackhawks

The Jacksonville Giants, behind a strong defensive effort, dominated the Columbus Blackhawks, 160-72, on Saturday night, January 27th, 2018 at Edward Waters College. The Giants defense was too powerful for the visiting Blackhawks, holding Columbus to only 21 first half points. Jacksonville improves to 12-1 on the season. 
 
Head Coach Jerry Williams, “The guys came out and played hard tonight. I played some of the guys longer as we prepare for the last month and a half of the season and get ready for the run at the playoffs and our quest for a 5thNational Championship.”
 
Jacksonville jumped out to a commanding 73-21 first half lead. The scoring onslaught was led by veteran ABA All Star Maurice Mickens.  Mickens led the team with 26 points, while Rashad Faust (25 points) and Jermaine Bell (18 points) rounded out the top scorers for the Giants. Jacksonville had eight players score in double figures. 
 
“We just stayed focused and understanding the task at hand,” said Mickens. “We see other teams in the ABA slipping and don’t want to lose our edge at this point in the season.”
 
Jacksonville was overbearing on the boards. The Giants out rebounded Columbus 92–40, the rebounding was led by Faust (15 total rebounds) and team captain Jerrod Tucker (12 total rebounds). Faust’s 15 rebounds and 25 points gave him a double-double for the evening. 
 
Throughout the game the Giants put on a thrilling offensive spectacle for the home crowd. Mickens, Faust, Bell, and Jeremiah Hill landed continuous shots to extend the Jacksonville lead. The fast tempo offense was very difficult to contain for the Blackhawks. First year Giant Dylon Cormier also got involved adding 17 points in the game.
