Mickens Scores 61 in Regular Season Finale
The Jacksonville Giants concluded their regular season with a dominant, 168-101, win over the Fayetteville Flight. The Giants finish the regular season with a 24-6 record and currently sit at #4 in the Nation. Jacksonville has earned a first-round bye in the playoffs and will face the winner of the South Western Regional Bracket on April 4 in Laredo, Texas. If the Giants win that game they will advance to the Final 8. Jacksonville will likely face the Arizona Scorpions or the Texas Sky Riders, which Texas would be a rematch from the February 27 Giants win at the Jacksonville Memorial Arena.
Point Guard Maurice Mickens scored a career-high 61 points on the evening. The 2014-15 ABA All-Star landed 10-three point baskets during the game, which was also a career high. Mickens tenacious play kept the Flight defense off balance.
Jacksonville had six players score in double figures and was able to keep a strong lead the entire contest. Jerrod Tucker (20 points), Dazeron Jones (17 points), and Chris Blake (13 points) rounded out the leading scorers for the Giants. Fayetteville’s Holmes (31 points) and Calloway (27 points) led the scoring for the Flight.
“It was a great way to end the regular season,” said Giants Head Coach Kevin Waters. “We are building the right momentum leading into the playoffs.”
More information about the Giants upcoming playoff game schedule, in April, will be posted on the team’s website this in the coming weeks. We would like to thank all of our fans and community for their support this past regular season.
