The Jacksonville Giants received exciting news this week when reigning ABA MVP Maurice Mickens was selected to the 2018-19 ABA All Star team. Giants Owner Ron Sholes and the entire Jacksonville Giant organization would like to congratulate Maurice on his most recent accomplishment.
Some of Mickens accolades for this season was scoring a total of 76 points during the Georgia and Alabama road trip. The combined 76 points came in a three game road trip where the Giants won three straight road games in three consecutive days. Mickens scored a season high 38 points on a December 8th opening night win vs Fayetteville. Mickens also scored 32 points in a December 14th win over the Tri City Blackhawks.
Mickens is a four-time selection to the ABA All Star team. The native from Memphis, Tennessee was the league’s season MVP in 2017-18 and is highly respected throughout the ABA by players and coaches. Mickens was also named the ABA Tournament MVP in 2017.
The reigning ABA MVP has been with the Giants since the 2013-14 season. In 2014 he sustained a devastating season ending knee injury. Following a six-month long rehab process Mickens rejoined the team and hasn’t looked back. His perseverance and dedication is the reason why he has been so successful in the ABA.
