What does the number 7 mean to you? Some may think of slot machines, some may think days of the week, but Jacksonville residents should be thinking of the seven new faces of the Jacksonville Giants. The defending ABA Champs had seven new players dress in their 52 point victory against the Florida All-Stars this past weekend.
While the newcomers played their role, the Giants couldn’t have gotten the job done without some returning cast members. Brandon Davis exemplified the Giant way with a Giant performance, drilling 9 three pointers en route to being the game’s leading scorer. We also saw a dazzling performance from returning Giant Bernard Nugent who had his fingerprints all over the ball, totaling a 23 point double-double, dishing assists to his new teammates all night, while Calvin Warner was in complete control of the paint throughout the game.
The focus shifts to Saturday’s game against the regional rival Atlanta Aliens, who look to take advantage of the new Jacksonville roster. For Coach Jerry Williams, roster turnover means nothing, as he is ready to prove why he picked the group of guys who will be suiting up at Christ the King Catholic School this Saturday at 6pm.
As the Giants adapt to their new squad, the mentality from ownership, coaching, and the players remains the same, as the defending champs look to capture title number… you guessed it, 7.
