Elijah Smith goes into the phone booth as a normal human being, but when he comes out, he is “Superman” flying through the air with the greatest of ease. Smith earned this nickname because of his high flying ability and putting defenders on posters on a given night. Making him a favorite amongst fans and an absolute crowd pleaser.

Smith hails from Augusta, Georgia and stands at 6-foot-eight-inches. In addition, is one the Giants youngest players. Smith would attend Louisburg College for two years before becoming a Nighthawk at the University of North Georgia where he’d major in Business.

As a member of the Nighthawks, Smith averaged nearly 12 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and 1.5 steals on 56 percent shooting per contest.

After his college playing days, Smith would spend one year as a member of the American Basketball Association’s Savannah Grizzlies as well as spend a year in the Ohio Valley Basketball League. Now as a member of the Giants, Smith continues to work on his game and is enjoying life in Jacksonville.

If we were not playing basketball, Smith stated that he would enjoy coaching and getting an opportunity to give back. However, as a member of the Giants organization, Smith has already become a beacon of light to the next generation and prides himself on the opportunity to give back.

Smith has been a major player in the Giants’ “Books-for-Baskets” reading incentive program, stressing the importance of reading and staying in school to the various children he meets at the various elementary schools he travels to throughout Duval County.

Family is equally as important to Smith both professionally and personally. As the second youngest of his four siblings, Smith is close to his mother, father, two brothers and sisters. He aspires to be the best person he can be as he aspires to be a role model for them. In addition, while on the floor, he plays by his father’s saying, “Play every possession like it’s your last.”

Smith is an unashamed “sneakerhead” with his go to shoes being Nike and Jordan.

Smith’s favorite player is NBA All-Star LeBron James because he feels they play a similar brand of basketball.

This will be Smith’s fifth season with the ball club and he already has three championships to his name. Expect “Superman” to help the Giants fly to yet another ABA championship this season
