Better known by his nickname “Slim”, Jermaine Bell continues to be one of the leagues premiere forces. The four-time American Basketball Association All-Star has been with the Jacksonville Giants since their inaugural season as the team’s first official signee and is returning to the Giants in hopes to help the team win their fourth consecutive ABA championship.

Growing up in the inner city inspired Bell to play basketball. Originally from Rochester, New York, Bell became one of the country’s top prospects while attending Benjamin Franklin High School. Bell continued his journey by going to Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Massachusetts before heading to Iowa to play at Indian Hills College.

During his time in Iowa, Bell would lead the conference in blocked shots, rank second in scoring and third in rebounding his freshman year. After leaving Indian Hills, Bell would take his talents overseas, playing for teams in Syria, Dubai and Qatar.

While in Boston’s Pro-Am Basketball Classic in 2010, Bell would come across former Giants head coach Kevin Waters.  The pair would form a bond and would become the franchise’s first official signee. In addition, Bell has been nothing short of pleased with his decision in playing for the Giants.

“The Giants organization is by far the best group of staff and players that I’ve had the opportunity to work with,” Bell said.

Bell is a 7-footer who’s game is smooth as silk. His combination of athleticism, length and soft touch on his jump shot has given opposing team’s problems since he’s joined the ABA which in turn has earned him from the respect of his teammates and the league.

Bell also plays with intense passion and toughness similar to his favorite player, future hall of famer and Los Angeles Laker legend, Kobe Bryant.

Since being in the ABA, Bell has had a well-documented career. Bell has been named the league’s Most Valuable Player twice and is a two-time finals MVP and shows no signs of slowing down. This season, Bell will be seeking his fifth championship and only has one thing on his mind: to keep winning.

The now eight-year vet says that his motivation stems from his children and he plays every game for them. When Bell isn’t being a nightmare for opposing defenses, he likes to relax.

Bell wants to prolong his professional playing career as long as he can but when it comes time to step away from the game playing wise, he hopes to stay around the game as a coach or a sports agent.
